The Len Bias story is on at 8pm on E:60. What a sad ending. The fans never got a chance too see Len play in the NBA. He had great college years, and was the next BIG THING. I hope the NBA fans watch this SAD STORY.

Philly had the first pick in the draft that year, and Boston, who had just won the title, the second. Bird predicted that Philly would "probably do something stupid", which they did, ending the run of their last championship squad. But it was Larry who was licking his chops over the chance for Boston to keep on their roll with Bias, whose death proved to be the beginning of the end for that Celtic's squad as well.

Man his death (Bias) happen late in the 80's. This is almost 30 years ago. I was still in high school. This happened after the Sixers winning their championship. Then there was the Barkley years. Wow time sure passes. I heard on the radio on the way home, that this is exactly how it happened the story of Bias death. But as you know, theirs KNOW WAY of knowing what happen. But I'm looking forward in seeing the Bias Story. I think they aired one story probably in the 90's as I recalled on ESPN Outside The Lines.

Nobody forced him to take drugs. Sad for him and his family, but hopefully other learned that you can die from taking drugs even if you only use them once.

One of the greatest college basketball players,of all time.

That '86'draft class made a lot of drug dealers happy.

How great would have been the Chicago/Celtic playoff games with Jordan and Bias should he have lived. It was sad. His teammates were being coy. Bias probably was doing cocaine a lot more than public actually knew. Like they said where did they get pure cocaine that wasn't stepped on.

It wasn't E:60...it was a part of the 30 for 30 series...and it was very good...

I was thinking the same thing about the Celtics vs Bulls with Bias in the mix.

The Celtic dynasty would have certainly lasted at least 5 more years with Bias, and I still believe that Len Bias was the greatest player ever in the ACC.

I mean at 6'8" 235'lbs,Len Bias was the total package. He could shoot, run the floor, play defense, and could jump through the gym.

I still watch old clips of Bias on youtube, and it almost brings tears to my eyes when you think of what could have been if he resisted the temptations of drugs.

North Carolina vs Maryland.

And Michael Jordan is the greatest ACC player, sorry to disrespect the great MJ but Len Bias was a great player as well.

No disrespect to either, but the greatest ACC player ever was David Thompson.

Me Too.

Im only 25, but every so often I go to youtube and watch MJ college highlights, specifically the game against maryland. The first time I watched it, Len Bias caught my eye as he kept doing his thing while Jordan did his. MJ is my favorite, but Len would have been right up there on everyone's favorite player list. Len was a once in a lifetime player. It's sad it ended the way it did.

Even though I was a kid when he was tearing it up, I feel sick when I watch his story. Just crazy.

Sorry but I was a Ralph Sampson/UVA guy in the 80's. We'll never see a 7'4 center who could actually start the fast break and run the floor like Ralph. His injuries which limited his pro career has made people forget how dominant a player he was.

the great red aurbauch begged the nba to give them another 1st round pick the next year before len bias body was even cold. my hatred for the celts and red when 100 times higher after that.
when you feel the thump, reel down and there's a snook.

maybe Larry O'Brian was gone by then? It was Larry who let the celts draft bird a year before he graduated Ind ST with a 2nd round pick. (One time incident that no other team was ever allowed to pull.) And Larry ordered the league not to draft Danny Ainge because he had a baseball contract (with the Blue Jays?) and then turned around and let boston nab him.

(I still think it was Larry O'Brian personally, as opposed to the democrats in general who Nixon was trying to bug at the Watergate.)

funny how the celtics come up smelling like a rose. don't get the 1st pick to get oden so a former celtic just gives them garrnet. if i were the owner of the t-wolves mchale would have been out the door the next day.

As good as Sampson, MJ and Bias were, I'd still have to say Thompson was the best. He did win a national championship.

Whew. This seems like yesterday. I guess I was around 10 years old or so. Like rzzzzz alluded...this pick was unanimously a sign of the Celtics continued dominance. He was so good and then he dies. Mind you, this was all before seeing young people die from drugs was so common place...it was really, really shocking.

I always like the Hank Gathers story. Not the ending of course...
I've come to the realization that I know much less than previously thought!
