For those of you who don't know basketball, that is a 7.5 to 1 ratio of assists to turnovers. And add in the fact that he is also averaging 20 points, 5 rebs, 5 assists, shooting 64 percent from the field and 50 percent from 3-point range shows that he has taken the challenge and is playing way above expectations thus far.

What has to be of major concern for Stefanski and Jordan is that Elton Brand is currently 5th on this team in scoring, trailing Williams, Iggy, Thad and Speights. And the sad thing is that I don't think that will change as the season goes along. All of those four are still on the come and Brand has probably seen his best days.

Entertaining season so far. Here's hoping Eddie can figure out what he wants to do with the bench and give Jason Smith, Rodney Carney and Jrue Holiday consistent rotation minutes. We will know a lot more about this team in the next week, with 4 games in 7 days.

Those numbers aren't going to remain, but you have to admit, he's never played this well before. Plus, the kid is only 23 years old.

I think he could average 20, 5, 5 with the minutes he's going to get this year, but his shooting percentages won't remain the same. With Jordan, he's going to get the minutes to show what he can do. It's up to Lou Will.

I expect Lou's scoring to drop to around 16 points per game... since I don't think he'll shoot 64% all season! But 5 asst and 5 reb are real... Rebs might go down a bit too since I expect Thaddeus Young to get more rebounds...

Overall, he's playing to my expectations. Still horrible on D.... Hopefully he gets better.

I saw Lou becoming the 2nd option behind Iguodala in preseason, and that is still going on. In the preseason, Eddie Jordan already put out the word that Elton Brand is his 3rd option on offense behind Iguodala and Young. But i guess Lou is doing much better than expected...

But, I think as they expand the princeton offense and everyone start reading and reacting the same way... Brand and Young will get much more opportunities to score than they do now.

For me, that's the encouraging part... This offense already looks decent... But they are maybe only operating in 50% proficiency... Get ready for some high octane offense for the next few years people!

I think as long as they have Iggy taking the pressure off him by bring up the ball most of the time. Lou's job will be easier as a starting PG. I think he'll average about 18pg, 6 ast, & 4 rbs this year. His shooting will drop to about 47%. But he'll have a decent season IMO. Iggy being the point forward/SG will help him grow into his new spot.

I think williams will keep a high shooting average I think his shooting over the last couple of years has improved as he has gained confidence. I am in Cleveland and a couple of years ago when Iggie was working on his game in the summer with Lebron in a local athletic facility with some coach Williams was there with them, a friend of mine was there. Being that I am from Philly and a big 76ers fan, my friend was asking me about this young kid and who he was I was like just a second round pick who came out of high school he hasn't really done much from what I had seen. He was like I would watch him(Williams), he didn't miss a shot for like 2 hours or something like that.

I think that was like after his rookie year. My friend was a local guy who knows basketball. It is just kind of interesting to hear someone who has an eye for them game say watchout for this guy in a couple years and here he is.

18-6-4 on 47% seems way too high for Lou.

He's been great thus far offensively (wish he played a little better on the other end though), but I just don't see how he could keep it up with his shooting.

I'd be really (really, really) happy if he can end the season with 16-5-3 on 45% from the floor.

thus far........as you say. I think he is playing well I agree, but Im concerned about his play aganst top 10 Point guards in the league. We can only grade him on his play against J.Nelson, so lets see how he plays Rondo(who is playing to get that Tony Parker money!)

As you said the assist-T.O ratio is great, his defense will not change overnight but through 3 games its obvious he likes his new role.

Elton Brand could very well take on the role of HESITATION MAN in 2010. A little pump fake and then Elton gets stripped by a player sneaking in. Thanks Elton! Elton trying to back a player down, woops striped again by the 2nd defender. Elton, do what Charles use to do, shield yourself by using your non shooting shoulder as a blocker, lol. Look for Elton to have a lot of his shots blocked in 2010.

good post, i agree with your analysis.

this has been an entertaining season starting off, but they absolutely HAVE to get better on defense. it surprises me that they have been so bad, because i though this was supposed to be their main focus, and that they'd have a problem scoring, but it has been the reverse.

yes, get smith, carney, and holiday more minutes and figure out a consistent rotation. i think smith should be dalembert's primary backup and speights should be brand's primary backup, with brand's minutes slowly decreasing in favor of speights as the season progresses. you didn't even mention brand is only the 3rd best rebounder on the team, and would easily be the 4th if sam could stay out of foul trouble. unacceptable. he also averages the 2nd most turnovers.

<<Look for Elton to have a lot of his shots blocked in 2010.>>

which is yet another similarity to the old cwebb (along with being turnover prone, having no real post game, being slow afoot on defense/being slow to get down court, lacking jumping ability, and having no real offensive game besides the midrange jumpshot).

The puzzling thing about Brand is that last year he still looked pretty decent rebounding and blocking shots. This year, he is supposed to be a lot healthier, but he looks worse on D, blocking shots and rebounding.

I've reached the point that I don't really care about what a player says they did in the offseason and how they are feeling now. Their play on the court currently is what tells me all I need to know. And unless Brand picks it up substantially, he is looking like a shell of himself. And the 76ers got him for four more years that way.

I for one am still holding out some hope that Elton regains some of his old form. If you throw out the disastrous-for-everyone 1st game, Elton's averaging 16.5 pts and 5.5 rebounds shooting 54%. I'd like the boards to be a lil higher, but I think I'd be happy with that point average.

The Boston game will be a telling one in my mind. We need him to perform well against the upper-echelon teams.

exactly! and on the flipside of that regarding brand, is it me or wasn't there some negative pub out there this summer regarding speights and how hadn't worked hard enough at rebounding and defense and hadn't done enough to improve over the summer? he looks like he's done the MOST work this summer to me. but all we've been hearing about is brand and smith.

I know there are alot of comparisons to C-Webb going around but something I noticed during the knicks game was that I did see Brand get down the floor and seemed like he was moving faster than some of the knicks. Not overly optimistic on Brand but if he gives us 16-8 I am happy. Although 16-8 does not equal $14,858,471 for this year. I am looking at it from the team as a whole that if Brand/Iguodala/dalembert/Young/Speights can average around 8 rebounds that is good team rebounding

i actually think brand already has SOME of his old form, but i was never impressed with his old form. brand was never much of an athlete, despite what stefanski might want people to think. he's benefitted in his career from strong work ethic and hard work. but when you physically deminish as he clearly has somewhat, that hard work can only take you so far. it's not even his offensive game so much that bothers me, but he's displayed terrible hands (which he also showed last year), not-so-good decision-making, average rebounding (i see people regularly just jumping over him), and most importantly, poor defense...which for some reason people are not noticing, but i know EJ has. elton's been OKAY. but he needs to be better than that.

His equalibrium is off. He reminds me of when Patrick Ewing was 37 years old, but Brand is only 30.
