Sam Dalembert - (C) still inconsistent and gets into foul trouble too easily so far. But does ok with whatever minutes he has gotten.

Elton Brand - (B-) props to Eddie Jordan for not playing more just because he's getting paid a lot. At least he's still a solid starter... Could be worse.

Thaddes Young - (C+) Dude. Lou Williams average almost 2 rebounds more than you per game. We know you can score. Work on your rebounding and defense. We really need that this year.

Andre Iguodala - (A-) so far so good. Clearly the initiator on offense. Keep it up and you shall be playing in the all-star game. Stats aside... the play that comes to mind however, is letting Chris Duhon drive all the way to the basket to get an easy layup to tie the game at the end of regulation. Yes, it's not all your fault. Lou Williams didn't fight through the pick-and-roll, and the big did not rotate over. But you should never let Chris Duhon of all people drive pass you like that and get an easy layup.

Lou Williams - (B+) playing up to my expectations so far. Smooth scorer, creates shots for his teammates, horrendous D. Won't shoot 60% all year, so scoring probably will be around 15-16 pts per.

Marreese Speights - (A-) Other than the time he had to guard Dwight Howard... Looks very good so far. Will get a lot of minutes this year if he keeps this up.

Others on bench (D+) - Opposing teams are putting up really big numbers against our bench. Why not try playing Jrue instead of Ivey? No way he can play worse...

Overall (B) - national media seems to have changed their mind a bit after the preseason. The Sixers clearly don't miss Andre Miller and Elton Brand is a welcome addition and solid contributor although it's evident that he'll never return to his all-star form.

I would grade this team so far a C+.
D against Magic, A against Bucks, C against Knicks. These three games is a good analysis of what our team has been past couple years, INCONSISTENT. Destroyed by superior team, beat a bad team, and almost lose to another.
C Teams make the playoffs in the East and the points you made are right on for how we need to Improve.

I agree with playing Jrue more, Jordan is gonna keep the bib on him for probably the first 20 games so he isnt overwhelmed. Sucks, it is what it is.

Sam B- Speights has been to good not to play.

Brand B- Still has to get into game shape. Has been a compliment to the team and has replaced Miller as the solid vet leader we lost.

Thad B- Needs to finish wit dunks and/go stronger to against contact.

Iggs B+ Came through in back to back games. And the only guy playnig D

Lou B+ O wise he's an A but needs to play better D. Has been upgrade and better to watch over miller.

Ace of Speights A+ Soon will be an All-Star

Bench B+ They've been ok

Coaching ####

after about a dozen games I'll have a true assessment. So far Brand looks to be in very good shape physically, works hard like he wants to be out there, and goes after it on D. I am not seeing him looking slow at all, but still balancing how and when to assert himself on offense. Sometimes he has forced it, other times he has passed it out when he should shoot it. He is the key guy for me this year.

Other than Brand, Iggy has looked good to me. Williams has looked good on offense, but terrible on defense. Thad seems to disappear on the court when he isn;t scoring. You don't see him after a lot of boards, making plays on D, or getting teammates involved. He needs to develop those parts of his game. Speights looks great in there. Jason Smith looks like he put on 15 lbs of muscle, but has yet to do much in a game. Sam has done little to look good. He hasn't been huge on D, gets too many goaltending calls, and has forces us to play 4 on 5 on offense. So he has been a disappointment.

In short, they got killed by Orlando, squeaked by a stinky Bucks team and a lousy Knicks team in OT where they blew a 20 point lead in the 4th quarter. Be realistic. I love the sixers, but this isn't nothing more than a .500 club at best.

Grade: D+

Bench B+?

The 3 games so far, they do very well in the 1st quarter then get beat up the 2nd quarter. To me, that is clear indication that our 2nd unit isn't very good.

Looking at our personnel... Our bench really really lack defense. We only have offensive players off the bench... Or just bad player (Ivey). The talent dropoff between our first and second unit is much bigger than I previously thought, other than Speights.

Things will get better though, when Jrue Holiday starts playing more. He is exactly what we need right now. A backup point guard and a defensive guard.

Maybe others had higher expectations for this team than I did, but I think some of you are grading a little harshly.

I don't think we should penalize the Sixers for having bad teams on their schedule early on. They had to take care of business and they did. They played well against the Knicks in 4 out of 5 periods (and yes the 4th is a very crucial period and they blew the lead) but the Knicks were playing at home.

Lou Williams, although its early, is far exceeding my expectations. Jameer Nelson and Chris Duhon did not have great offensive games against us, but Brandon Jennings did. It should be noted I think that Milwaukee took Detroit to the cleaners.

I think expecting a win at Orlando, the defending Eastern Conference champs, would be expecting too much. Yeah the game wasn't pretty, but once a team like that gets in the zone, it's hard to stop.

I agree that is crazy. And I am right.

A team isn't going to win every game, and this team is a work in progress after losing Andre Miller. 2-1 in my opinion is a great start.

Eventually, I hope, the Sixers will be able to compete with the likes of Orlando and Boston.

Sam - (C) Would be higher if he wasn't so foul-prone.

Brand - (D+) Has done nothing well enough so far besides nail the midrange jumper at a fairly consistent level. Defense has been very suspect. His grade suffers in large part because he is falling so short of expectations.

Thad - (B-)

Iguodala - (A) Even in a slow start, he has been the glue by filling up the stat sheet in the fringe categories. Leads the team in rebounding from the guard position. Crazy.

Lou - (A) Unlike Brand, his grade gets a boost because he has so far EXCEEDED expectations so far. Is playing within himself way more than I thought he was capable of. Needs to improve defensively. We will not miss Miller one bit.

Speights - (A+) Has done pretty much everything well, provides attitude, personality, and energy, and is the best big man on the team. Period. Note to vt76ers--sure, he had problems guarding Howard, but Speights is more a PF than a C, and even experienced, natural 5s can't guard Howard. The crazy thing was that Howard (defensive player of the year) couldn't guard HIM!

Bench - (C-) Have given up a lot of momentum. But I think the bench is solid, and hasn't been used properly. Jrue and Carney need more minutes. Kapono has been as good, or better than advertised.

Overall - (C) To put it simple, very promising on offense, very disappointing on defense. Coaching could be a little better.

LouWill-(A)Love how controlled he's been so far.Great fg% and not turning the ball over.

Andre Iguodala-(A-)Bad first game but good next 2 games.Leading scorer, rebounder and assist man.Leads team in steals as well.If he continues this kind of a start and we have a respectable record he'll make the all star team.

Elton Brand-(D)Had higher hopes even though it's only 3 games.I expect him to be better at around 19,9 and 1.5.I hope i'm right.

Thad-(C)Expectations weren't high so i'm not that disappointed.Outside the NYK game he hasn't done much. His favorite move seems to be to lose control of the ball and regain it and make a layup, uncanny.

Sammy D-(C)Needs to stay on the floor.

Marreese Speights-(A+)Been awesome so far. That's all i have to say.

Jason Kapono-(B)Doing exactly what he should be doing and what we need him to do.

Jason Smith-(I)I'm not sure he knows the plays cause he effed up on a set against Milwaukee and hasn't returned since,lol/

Jrue Holiday-(I)We'll see how it goes.
No comments on Carney,Ivey and Green since they're scrubs.

its nothing serious sixerdave, just a quick analysis of the first 3 games. I like evaluating over 10 game spans, however it doesnt hurt giving an early assesment on this team. Sure expectations are not high like the fans rooting for those top 5 teams thats preposterous. We are gonna beat a couple of those top teams this year/and we are gonna lose some games that we should win thats an obvious pattern.

Our team defense, especialy around the perimeter, must improve! Lets also see how LouWill grows in his role of pg and how he plays against top 10 pgs in this league (like Rondo on Tuesday).
GO SIXERS!

Iguodala is our version of caron butler...that is all I ever wanted. A strong start will get him voted into the allstar game by the coaches..or at the very least if someone is injured.

If EJ turns Young into a young antawn jamison he gets coach of the year.

I expected Elton Brand to be around 16 and 9 before the season started. Now I'm thinking more 15 and 8, since he'll only get around 30 minutes.

People can talk all about him being the 80 million man and should contribute more. But why dwell on the past? He is signed and he is here and he is contributing. I mean, Eric Dampier got 60 million, Kenyon Marin got like 70 million. Grant Hill got like 90 Million and didn't play at all... Tracy McGrady... Steve Francis... Stephon Marbury... list goes on and on.

You got a good, although not great, player in Brand who is a legit starter at PF. Basically, you got 75 cents on the dollar with Brand... So it's not a homerun, but not all is lost.

Most fans for some reason always expect every FA signing and drafts to be homeruns... It doesn't work that way. You basically almost never get what you pay for in any business. Some out performs their cost, some under performs.

I think Brand can still be a 20-10 guy if he was the first option... on a bad team. So if you look on the bright side... Brand being a 4th option isn't really that bad. we have plenty of players that can score, and do it better than Brand.

just an early look at the team... I won't do another one until the quarter mark. But, just wanted to set the expectations for the rest of the season after an early sample of games against real NBA competitions.

What did those players have in common? Oh yeah, they played for teams that didn't get very far in the playoffs. Martin made it to the finals with the Nets before getting a huge contract and only last year did the Nuggets do anything impressive. But when you invest so much into unproductive players, you can't build up other areas of your team.

That being said, I think Elton's contributions will be fine if Speights continues to progress playing behind him. Those two guys are combining for 30 points, and Speights is shooting 75%. So I think we'll be ok at PF.
