Sammy "D", over the last 10.

Minutes 37.5
Assists 0.5
Steals 0.4
Off.Rbnd. 3.3
Def. 7.9
FT % 70.2
FG% 60.3 (!!!)
Blocks 3.3 (!)
Rbnd./ 11.2 (!!)
Points/ 11.2 (!)

Bum-baclaat!

With the road run ahead, hopefully the away games they've already won will help, psychologically. Be interesting to see how The Godfather plays over the next 10. I agree with Dick Allen, Sammy's got to get more shots. 60%?

Givin' y'all nothing but the lick, like two broads,
Got more lyrics than the church got 'Ooh Lords';
And he hold the mic and your attention like two swords
Or even one with two blades on it -
Hey you! Don't touch the mic like it's AIDS on it!

He might be shooting 60% because of the low # of shots... If you force him to shoot more, theres a good chance the percentage drops.

That could be right. He's a shooter though. Money from 15 in. I'd expect/hope that they're working on getting him another 4-5 shots per game.

"If you force him to shoot more, theres a good chance the percentage drops."

Not if they are good shots. Have Miller, Williams, Green and Iggy drive to the hoop, draw the center to them and have them kick it to Sammy on the baseline or near the foul line. He can shoot short shots well. He just can't shoot long ones or those where he needs to use one hand around the hoop. Right now the only place he goes when teammates drive to the hoop is to go right to the hoop himself, thereby allowing their other people to come in and break up the pass. We don't seem to run many plays of any kind for the big guys - Smith either.

Averages don't tell the story, for every 18 point game there is a 4 point game - inconsistent! He is playing better this year but still inconsistent.

true, but even in his 4pt game he had 9 boards and 2 blocks.

He's not as good as Mutombo, but Deke always got his touches and looks.

Cheeks still isn't comfortable with Sam's offense, but that's really just a hangup, because he has absolutely nothing to lose by getting Sam a touch every time down the court. This year Sam looks like he wants to be a great player, so they should let him stretch out as much as possible.

Excellent post. Superb numbers and research.

Limit to Sam's upside or potential? Like Lou Williams, he's as good as he wants to be.

The man still does not have a single low post offensive move. That is the reason Mo will want to limit his touches to putbacks and dunks.

"Sammy's got to get more shots. 60%?"

Let him keep getting his off of pick n roll or lob passes. His points aren't what you should be focusing on.It's his rebounding/blocks and just staying out on the floor.

he has one, the step back jumper.

Thing is, even w/o a bevy of moves, he just looks more stable down low than ever before.

For the work he puts in on D and on the glass, they should try to throw him some bones on O.

I see that and a 4 point/ 9 rebound/ 2 block game is not what you want from a starting center, especially one that many on here are calling an all-star. I have said all along that he is playing better but I still think he is inconsistent. That is my entire stance, don't post something crowing (not directed at you but there are many)how great he is on the good games and not have some objectivity when he has a less than average or poor game.

he was 2-4 in the 4pt explosion against SAC. Sam is no superstar, but he can't score if he doesn't touch the ball. 9 boards and 2 blocks suggests he was reasonably active.

I just think this season is a golden opportunity to develop Sam offensively.

Whatever attitude and work-ethic issues he once had, seem to be behind him. So as an organization, we should be relentlessly challenging him to do better.
