Confirmed. Kinda surprised, thought he'd be good bullpen insurance. Not sure where he'll end up. Going to be strange seeing him in a different uniform to be honest.

It is sad for Myers but he will get picked up and get a second chance .I think we along with Brett expected this was coming.

Interesting. I don't recall Ruben being so definitive during his press conference.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Mets try and sign him.

It is hard to see one of our guys leave - despite some of his downside, I really liked the guy...and think that perhaps he was a bit misunderstood. Regardless, however, I think that the Phils treated him well during his tenure - and wish him well in the future...with that crazy wife of his he might need it.

I Have a feeling he is going to be a solid starter somewhere. I'm curious to see what his market value is.

I wish Myers well, but honestly, I think he's an underachiever. A career ERA of 4.40 that progressively worsened from 2007 through 2009.

He's still relatively young at 29 and he might turn his career around. My impression of him is that he's a hyper guy - he often got rattled with guys on base. I'm sure Amaro will do some shopping this winter - the bullpen and bench should be top priorities and if we can pick up another starting pitcher, great.

Good to see Amaro not getting all sentimental on retooling in 2010. He was well paid for producing so little. Wonder what kind of money he'll command next contract.

I dont get it.

What's the benefit of showing our hand so early? What if he doesnt get close to what he wants....and we can keep him for pennies? We automatically say no?

NEW JERSEY: DON'T WORRY....WE HATE YOU TOO!

I wish him the best. I think the last episode with the black eye punched his ticket out of town.

Well that clears about $12.5M of that $140M Ruben mentioned...

Actually I see this as really good; Myers being the move aside. Amaro is obviously setting up to make the moves necessary to solidify this team for 2010.

It may signal as we heard that lots of team will not be offering arb to many. He's just getting ready.

Seems like Amaro has a game plan since he announced this decision so soon. Speculating on what that plan is, will give all of us something to talk about!!!

Poetic Justice would have been Sam Carchidi breaking this story.....

As the great warrior-poet Ice Cube once said: If the day does not require an AK......It is good.

I really think that you are dead on with that - had the same feeling at the time that it occurred.

It is hard to give up on a potentially live arm (also a RH); a guy that can start and/or relieve; a homegrown former #1 pick; a loyal guy that wants to be here; and someone that due to circumstances might be signed on a one year deal that might be affordable. Given all of that, and the fact that the Phils know him better than anyone - one has to think that they have enough information to conclude that it is better for all parties to head in a different direction.
