Society places a high premium and priority on Sports, much to my disagreement. However, that's the reality. So, it's should be a fair assessment that society would welcome any positive consequences due to the existence of sports. With the financial & economic situation we find ourselves in largely due to the GREED IS GOOD agenda, the Phillies winning over the much higher salaried Yanks would send a positive message that one can still achieve & even "win" when the odds are stacked against you. Next, coming back from a 3-1 disadvantage would send the message that if you don't give up, you can possibly achieve your goal. One can argue that the Phils won last year & don't be greedy. True, it may have been better for the common good if a team like Cleveland won it this year, but that's not where we're at right now. A Yankee fan may feel I'm being too presumptuous, but I would argue isn't 26 enough? I could go on & on, but I'll stop here. |

That is good rationale. I agree the Phillies should win to set a good example. "Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?!?!" |

Earlier today I had to do some grocery shopping and I walked into our local supermarket wearing my Chase Utley T-shirt. I would estimate, in my 15 or so minutes in the store, at least ten people yelled out "Go Phillies!!" Not very unusual until you realize that I live in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I have not met a single Yankee fan. New Yorkers can be an abrasive lot, and many Yankee fans have an arrogant air about them. I never thought the Yankees were America's Team, and today is just another example of how disliked they are nationally. I don't wish them any ill will, people like Jeter and Joe Torre are classy (Joe was smart to leave) but I think the only instance where I could ever root for a NYC team is if they were playing Al Qaeda. |

| Yeah it is popular, although I think kids here are more into football and basketball. Most folks here are Twins fans - and since the Yanks knocked the Twins out, everyone finds it really easy to root for our Phillies. |
