I agree it is a fact. It's like if I have a thousand dollars and you have a million dollars I wonder who has the better car. Same difference, when you don't have to scout or bring up talent because you can buy it after other teams do that for you it makes a big difference

Here we go again with the same ole excuse. The yankees haven't won anything since 2000 and we had the highest payroll. We haven't been to the World Series since 03. In addition, besides, Arod, Nick Swisher, Burnett, CC, the Majority of the yankee team are ALLLLLLLLL HOME GROWNNNNNNNN.. Jeter, Mariano,Posada, Andy P. Cano, JOBA, HUGES, Dameso Marte, Melky, Gardner, Robinson. Hey, if you can't score with runners with scoring position, who faults is that? If you have a short stops that likes poping his mouth and making predictions, who fault is that as well? This series is far from over, but enough with the payroll excuse..It's tiring and the yankees are playing by the same rules.. Enough said..Peace.

You mean besides your best 2 starters and those guys at the bottom of the order in the 3 and 4 hole you bought. I have friends that are Yanks fans and glad they won but at least have the integrity to say yes they bought it

I guess it's easier to say the Phillies choked an they suck and the team should be blown up.

I'm all for the Phils spending another $80 mil on free agents, imagine and then the payrolls would only be even. This is why baseball is a joke, I love the game but at least football your scouting and front office have to do their jobs, baseball that is not the case.

It's easy to #### about the Phillies. I mean, ESPN and the national media WANT the overly paid Yankees to win so that the ratings go up and people buy more Yankee merchandise.

They are not why the Yankees are ahead in this series, it is the FO pickups. At least be honest with yourself.

The Yankees had a higher payroll last year, and guess what? They didn't even make the playoffs. There is way too much money with the television contracts ranging near a billion dollars. There is no way in hell the Players association is ever going to approve a slary cap. The fact is, big market teams make the money for baseball. Having a great Yankees, Redsoxs, Phils, Dodgers and cubs is a cash cow for baseball. Look at this year's world series for example. The Yankees and Phils World Series has the highest ratings in all of baseball. You have a lot of the low market owners who don't want to spend the 40 milliion in the revenue sharing. So, every owner is making money. If they were losing money, then as David Cone once said, why don't those owners open and show their revenue books? As for the cap in football, I feel the NFL is the worst now. You will never see a Dynasty like the 49ers,Cowboys, Steelers again. Why, because of the beautiful cap, you can't afford to keep all your players. There is a reason why there were teams that flat out sucked. They didn't do a great job with scouting players from the draft. But hey, why scout in college when you can easily scout a proven player in the NFL and know that team can't keep him because of the cap. Listen, the CAP only works in the NBA because of the small roster space. In addition, the NFL has the LARRY Bird Exception rule, which allows free agents from their own team to go over the cap. So in closing, there will never be a cap, as long as baseball continues to make millions and millions of dollars!

So, I guess Jeter, Andy Petitte, Mariano Rivera, and Posada, who are home grown Yankee players didn't play in any of the Yankee three wins thus far either..lol

One more point, why is it that with a Salary Cap, why do the Lakers, Boston, Detroit, Seems to get all the good players the Majority of the time?

The Skankees have the highest payroll in baseball - - 50% higher than the 2ND highest payroll. Yet SteinVader somehow gets the City and State of New York to finance nearly 60% of his new ballpark, the Skankees pay no sales tax or property tax, and get a cut rate on the electricity for the stadium from NYC. How does SteinVader pay back such generosity?? By charging $375 for a seat 15-25 rows off the infield (I pay $30 in KC, between $35-70 at Wrigley, depending on the game). Yeah, that's a level playing field for all teams to compete. Baseball needs a salary cap - - or eliminate/contract the Yankees.

The Yankees bought this WS title, plain and simple. And Boss George is screwing his fans and his city with his ticket policies, especially considering the sweetheart of a stadium deal that he got.

I agree with you, that the ticket prices for Yankee games are sick. I know the Yankees plan on reducing their prices next season by 40 percent. So, when the Yankees lost in 2003 to the Low Market Marlins, nobody was complaining? Face the facts, having strong Major Market teams is good for baseball, period. This World Series has the highest television ratings the last five years! Trust me, and baseball knows this. How many people would be watching the world series if it was let's say KC vs. Pirates or KC vs. Marlins? Not too many, which would mean money lost for MLB. Think about this, When Boston vs. Lakers in NBA Championship, it had the largest tv ratings in YEARS! There is a reason for it. BIG MARKET TEAMS bring in the loot. If you want a cap, perhaps there should be bottom cap that requires cheap owners in KC or the Pirates that require them spend a miniumal of 50million rather than pocket 40 million into their pocket. But if you think there is going to be CAP, then I have this bridge out in Brooklyn I want to sell you.

Your payroll was twice as much as the Rays last year. I didn't see any Rays fans whining.

(Won't take credit for this tidbit...saw on another post.)

Mariano, yes the others not really. Jeter is a decent slap hitter and leadoff guy (better than Rollins), but last I checked it was the remaining FA signings who have put them over the top.

And please spare us the excuses for the high Yankee payroll, you really sound ridiculous. From the days of them buying Babe Ruth from the Bosox they have always bought the best talent smaller markets could not afford.

Whatever makes you sleep at night.

My opinion is that once you're above $100 mil, you can't use the payroll argument. The Twins are the only playoff team that can point to shrewd management and player development. The Yanks, Mets, Sox, Dodger, Tigers, Phils all have some homegrown talent, but all supplement via trades and/or free agency. True that the Yanks got Tex, CC and Burnett in the same year, but they do this a lot and it hasn't won them anything in almost a decade. If the Yankees won it 5 times this decade, a good argument could be made. But 7 different teams have won the last 8 world series and none of them were the Yankees.
