| I know that the reality is mcnabbmcnow will probably not return to this forum and so will not see any of the responses to his obvious rant against public teachers.
First of all the teachers in Council Rock do not "average" 82,000 per year. The pay schedules allow for a substantial amount of money such as 82, 000 after 12 years of experience and a Masters Degree or higher. The highest salaries are provided for those who have completed lengthy experience and a PhD program. I guess from his rant it is obvious that he feels those paid well after completing a educational program well beyond the average "small private high school" and years of experience educating the youth of the community who then enter higher education, should be relegated to driving rusted out hulks and living on food stamps. By the way if the teachers in that community did not do a good job would the real estate values be what they are.
It would appear from what you said that simply being more athletically talented should command a large salary. Amazing! The ability to dribble a basket ball should be paid substantially more than a teacher who works diligently to shape the minds of young people. I guess we know where his priorities are.
While we are on the subject. mcnabbmcnow complained about the lengthy vacations that teachers get and asked the question "who else gets this kind of time off." Well let me remind mr mcnabbmcnow that those very talented atheletes only work for a "season". When the season is over does he question why they make the millions, not thousands, that they make. Teacher are paid for the time they work which in this state is a minimum of 180 student days. There is not a district in the Commonwealth that only works 180 days in a teaching schedule. Vacations are not part of the contract. We don't get paid vacations like those individuals in the private sector who yes work very hard for there money. I know they do because the products that I as a teacher must by and the taxes I pay, by the way the same taxes as mr mcnabbmcnow, continue to rise.
In addition the "union" that mr mcnabbmcnow complains about works very hard to come up with new ideas in education and to find ways to work with school districts to improve education and limit costs. We live in these communities as well. Our real estate values are just as dependent as everyone elses. Yes we protect the rights of individuals so that the system that is very powerful and often arbitrary does not trample on those rights. Its a good thing we do or the pay scale you enjoy would not be as great. Or possibly with that private school education you think it is perfectly fine to steal from your stockholders, manipulate prices to rip off taxpayers and to lie to employees, at least by ommission when making sure executives get their perks and benefits inspite of the fact that they have driven the company to the verge of bankruptcy. I am not sure the problem is the union! |

| Here is a great article that shows labor unions real colors: http://nypost.com/news/regionalnews/76059.htm
It is difficult to follow rufusbrown's trend of thought. I'm just glad he/she is not teaching my kids. Here is an example: rufusbrown said; "By the way if the teachers in that community did not do a good job would the real estate values be what they are." ... Are any commas missing? How about a question mark? How about a semblance of intelligence?
Sure, teachers who are forced to join the labor union live in the community where they teach (most of the time). But statistics show that urban teachers have the highest per capita rate of children attending private schools.
Take a look where the PAC money for the NEA and AFT go. Over 90% go to liberal Democrat candidates. |
