"...Merrill Lynch made its biggest purchases of bad debt ... after the subprime crisis had already become public knowledge."

+ Banks Gone Wild / NY Times

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/23/opinion/23krugman.html

"Most subprime loans are based on floating interest rates ... many homeowners ... are now facing 30-50% increases in their monthly payments."

"... subprime loans made up as much as 23% of the housing market in 2006. The increasing number of defaults and delinquencies means more than just homeowners in trouble."

+ Subprime Mortgage Market Collapse: A Primer / ERATE

http://www.erate.com/subprime-mortgage-market-collapse.htm

"When Obama launched his mortgage rescue plan, he promised that it would help 5 million households."

"... President Obama's plan to rescue those facing mortgage foreclosure is a dismal failure."

"Only 19,041 — a paltry 6 percent — were modified ..."

"And of those modified, only 11,200 involved any reduction in the monthly payments!"

"Only 12 percent involved any write-off of interest, fees, or principal, and 27 percent of the loan modifications actually increased the monthly payments due."

+ Obama's Mortgage Rescue Plan Fails Miserably / Newsmax

http://www.newsmax.com/morris/Obama_mortgage_rescue/2009/06/09/223238.html

"But with the foreclosure rate hitting a new record in the third quarter, the government's ability to put a meaningful dent in the tally of housing-crisis victims faces renewed skepticism."

+ Why Obama's Housing Rescue Hasn't Prevented Record Foreclosures / US News

So...--drastically hike-up sub-prime rates, pull the rug out from beneath people's feet, and drive yourself right out of business--WHAT'S THE DEAL???

The subprime mortgage market collapse? There is a difference between news and ancient history, and you seem to fail to grasp it. FYI, the Punic Wars are over. Rome won.

Ach Mein Gott!!!

...And to think silly-old-me thought certain articles say Banks still, to this very day, dramatically jack-up people's rates--where such is exactly what caused a recent Big Bank failure...

Dummkopf!!!

Dummkopf!!!

Dummkopf!!!

...Back to the old drawing-board!!!

Dummkopf? Ich bin keiner Dummkopf. Du bist.

You guess wrong. If you cannot tell the difference between history and news, it's your problem.

I'm guessing that, with your German language skills and your failure to accept the obvious, you're riding a high horse here...

What I can never understand about you damn Nazi-types is your unwillingness to allow that you, yourselves, are a bunch of losers...

...There was that auto-biography by the German Actress Hildegard Knef which pointed out such--a bunch of Rapists/Losers...

...Yeah, Mr. Hair in a Bun with your Prune Lips...

No prunes, but... nazi type? Ich? Other than wearing socks with my sandals, I don't even remotely resemble a nazi. There is not a drop of master-race blood in my veins. This is, unless the Spanish took over the claim. :-)

I figured I'd let you comment on the nazi thing. Nothing wrong with socks and sandals either.

Opps--right...--Mussolini (of the Axis) was Italian (not Spanish) and he wore Jack-Boots (not sandals).

My sister's husband is German, and one day she saw both of us sitting in the living room drinking Dab and wearing sandals and socks. She threw her arms up and said - "Gott in Himmel! My brother too!"- We got a big laugh out of it.
