Last week I posted the question. I received a tepid response...I think we have a lot of bandwagon fans, overly critical fair weather fans...and now I am calling you out.

I was disheartened by the negativity on this board about how lackluster the play has been. How Richards is a poor captain, how Carter is the worst 40 goal scorer of all time, how Stevens sucks as a coach, how Homer sucks as a GM...

blah freaken blah blah blah.

Time to rally....Flyers have played the fewest games so far (except for Atlanta) and could climb up to the top of the heap very quickly. Richards has been hitting everything, which makes me happy. Goals are coming in in buckets (I don't care if it is against poor teams, they are professionals and paid to keep goals out of the net, goals are hard to get and the Flyers are at the top) they have the best special teams and have solid goaltending (not spectacular, but solid). Like last year, they spread their production around....

I get the whole argument of "I don't like where the league is going, or what it has turned into"...I don't either. I hate the shootout, hate the Crosby nut sucking and hate the Bettman regime, but I hated the trap as well 10 years ago. There is still too much to love about hockey, especially after seeing the Flyers hitting everything in a white and blue jersey (Didn't they double them up in hits?).

You either bleed Orange and Black or you don't.

it is not so black and orange as you make it out to be.

the prevailing opinion is that the team has too much talent to give up two goal leads and stop playing at the 18:45 mark of every period

that is a leadership/coaching issue in my book.

you make a good point about games (the fewest) played though and my hope is the team jells and works out these kinks.

based on the ECF run 2 years ago and the flame out last year; a lot of us are wondering which team we will see in the future. its disconcerting because the team across the state really has ignorant bandwagon fans and 3 of the best players in the game for the forseeable future. and though we all hate crosby, he competes and is proving himself to be pretty clutch... while our guys are proving to be inconsistent.

Good post and I had a problem with those ripping Carter and Richards (and I even defended Homer in several posts). One area I stand by my criticism is with Stevens.

I still believe Stevens is not the right coach to take us to the next level but I would love and savor that taste of crow if he proved me wrong.

last night was a good test and they passed it. The effort was there, they didn't let up, and won a good game on the road against a good team.

The Carolina/Tampa games didn't exactly have me 'sold' although they won both by decent margins, but if they can do what they did last night (against good teams), they should be ok.

I hope they can do that back to back (tonight vs St. Louis) before heading into another 4 days without a game....I hate this schedule so far...things will really pick up beginning Thursday all the way until February.

Let's Go Flyers!

You're wrong. "Critical fair weather fans", your words. Do critical fair weather fans even care enough to criticize? You cant tell people how to vent, period. As far as Richards being a poor captain, so far he has been a poor captain. He can grow into a great one but so far he's not been a good one. As far as Carter goes, to say he's the worst 40 goal scorer is just moronic. 40 goals are 40 goals and it takes talent to do it. The shootout. It wouldn't be needed if teams didn't play the NOT TO LOSE game in overtime. What i would like to see is in overtime start with 4 on 4 for half the period, if that doesnt produce a score go 3 on 3 for the other half. If that doesnt work than go for a shootout.

You know, they have had three good games. they beat up on the easy opponent and outhit, outscored and outskated a real good Buffalo team. The effort was there and so was team play. That is the type of hockey I think we all are expecting out of this team.

Its the "hot and cold" that gets to me though. I hope this keeps up. even if the lose games while putting out effort like last night, I will be happy. But if they fall back into the lackadaisical ho-hum hockey we have seen recently, I'll continue to criticize.

They played great last night. it was fun to watch

we all want the flyers to be successful here and, whether you like it or not, we are all entitled to post our opinions here.

in my opinion (and homer's), there is a direct correlation between the "effort" given by the flyers and the amount of ice time the third and fourth lines receive. until stevens starts playing all of his lines more equally, the reality is, the less time we are killing penalties, the more ice time the third and fourth lines get (last night, for example, the fourth line played a season high 15 minutes), the more "effort" the flyers give.

IMO, we need the third and fourth lines to play more regularly!!!

To be honest with you, as sick of you are at looking at posts that are critical, is as sick as I am of people posting how annoying it is that people are critical. I mean I see your point of it going over the top, and people having unrealistic expectations of players and the team, I get that. But, reading a board where everyone posted about how amazing everyone was all the time would be A- boring, and B- unrealistic also.

IMO, a real fan of a team does not have to think everything the team does is great. A real fan lets you know when they are giving effort and are playing well, and lets you know when they aren't playing well. That is not being a fair weather fan. That is being objective. I love the Flyers, don't get me wrong, but if they aren't playing well or giving effort it is my right, or any other fan's right to talk about it. Therefore, if they are playing well you will see positive posts because they are warranted, and if there are negative posts its because maybe they are not playing great. Yeah sometimes people take it over the top and it gets ridiculous, but its their opinion right or wrong; doesn't necessarily make them a "bandwagon" fan.

Check in with me after our next matchup with Pissburgh and I will let you know if there is still an effort problem.

Better yet, check in with me coming down the stretch and I will let you know.

Till then, IMO we are simply winning games we are supposed to win. I am cautiously optimistic but lets remember that consistent effort is the only thing that will get us past the Penguins.
