With 2 goals and a assist today, Matsumoto has been great in the AHL. He has not only been putting up points, but his +/- has been fantastic. If he keeps this up, I think the Flyers will have to call him up.

Also, the flyers 7th round draft pick from 2006, Andrei Popov, is apparently ripping it up in the KHL.

Sort of exciting that the flyers have these under the radar prospects who seem to be developing into pretty good players.

Don't know Popov but I've seen Matsumoto play in person on several occassions...I've always been a fan of him and Jared Ross. I've seen them play for the Phantoms in Hershey - those two dominate every time.

Do you think Matsumoto, like Ross, is too small to excel at the NHL level?

I don't know - that's the only downfall. I mean, those guys are both really small!

I think they could be effective, but I don't know how 'durable' they would be. You look at a guy like Powe - he's small and fast, but he's also tough. He can throw his weight around and even stand up for himself if he has to. I'm not so sure Matsumoto or Ross can do that (even in a Bettmanized) NHL.

I've always thought he(Mats) would get a chance, but nothing to date. It must be something in his game that they don't like.

Maybe one day, with all these injuries if not this year then never maybe with this team.
