| Now leads all rookies in scoring with 13 points. He's played 5 less games than the next closest player el Capitan Cannonista |

| I have to admit I was completely WRONG about this kid. I was one saying he wasn't ready and wouldn't make the team and that it would be good for him to have one more year in the AHL. I must admit again I WAS WRONG. What an amazement this kid is, producing many points in the early goings! |

I Was on the fence about him until he played well in the preseason.. He has blown away my wildest predictions on how well he'd do. Amazing. Watching him in College and for the WJC's he looked like he had a lot of growing to do and I thought he'd need more time in the A than even Gioux did. Sometimes you get young players that are maybe better suited for the pro game or that are bored with their current competition and need a challenge. Maybe that was JVR. He came in, worked hard, learned and absorbed as much as he could about the pro game, and worked his butt off because he wanted to stay with the big club. 2nd overall skill + hard work and drive to succeed = success. Orange and Black attack. You've just been Pronged! |

Where are all the "TRADE JVR WHILE WE CAN" people now? I haven't been hearing much from them. Interesting. A pessimist is one who feels bad when he feels good for fear he'll feel worse when he feels better |

love the Forsberg-esque behind the goal one handed pass to Carter for the goal. Maybe this kid knew what he was doing by staying in college last year. Maybe everyone on the team should take his courses! |

| I STILL don't think staying, or even going to UNH helped JVRs game. He looked like the same player for 2 years with no progression. I think he was already a big, fast talented player when he was drafted. He just seemed to lack drive. He doesn't seem to lack it anymore. el Capitan Cannonista |

I would hate to think where the Flyers would be this year without JVR. I think he might arguably be our best play so far this year |

I am in the camp that I thought that the AHL would be good for him to pick up the speed for a bit (ala the Giroux program)- that is until I learned how hard he worked this summer. However, I was never in the camp that said he was a bust, lazy, etc. I knew that he learned and played a completely different game at UNH and most importantly honed defensive responsibility, which is Hockey East. Nobody ever says anything about the fact that he played center at UNH and not wing. He learned to play the full ice, be defensively responsible and lead the team in scoring. |

Sorry, I didn't see this thread before I started my JVR apology. Unlike the Fonz, I can admit I was wrong. And I am a stubborn man. I am reserving full judgement until the playoffs though, but you can't help but be excited about this kid. |

i'm sure he'll wear down towards the end of the season, but still i love him as a player now. we'll need Gagne back for the playoff push, because Dawson isn't used to the grueling NHL schedule. that depth will be good to have. |

I like our lack of realism as fans. We go from thinking he's a complete waste to the greatest flyer to ever don the orange and black... FOREVER. ha ha He's looking great right now. I'm too superstitious to say anything more than that right now! |

| I do agree with you to an extent about us jumping the gun too soon on all things related to the Flyers. But when you see the tools that guys like JVR and Giroux exhibit out on the ice you know that they’re the real deal. It may take them awhile to hit their peak level, but the talent is certainly there to do so. As of right now, these guys are potential stars that are contributing at a high level given their NHL experience. |

<<"I STILL don't think staying, or even going to UNH helped JVRs game.">> He said himself, that he got to play a lot of center last year which helped him learn how to be defensively responsible as a forward. Maybe his path wasn't to some of our liking but it seems to have panned out for him so far. Then there was the other learning to live on his own that he felt he wasn't ready to do at the NHL level. He couldn't have done both those things in the OHL (where Homer, his future employer wanted him to go) or with the Phantoms? (where Homer, his future employer wanted him to go year 2) He also would have played waaaaay more games. Nobody knows what would have happened, and things have worked out fine. He could have been developed even further along in a better program though. el Capitan Cannonista |
