The problem comparing eras is the size/speed difference. The OL average of 300 pounds vs 250 is obvious, but the players from then would have today's conditioning/training and be close to 300. Back to back championship shutouts, give me the 48-49 teams.
I don't mind coming to work, but that eight hour wait to go home is a b-itch.

The size difference between players notwithstanding, I believe the 1980 Eagles were better than the 2004 team. I think the defenses were comparable overall, but the 1980 team had a better defensive line. Donovan McNabb is a more physically-gifted QB than Ron Jaworski, but Jaworski was at his very best in 1980 and could hold his own in that comparison. While the '04 team had Terrell Owens, the 1980 team had an equally-uncoverable WR in Harold Carmichael.

The deciding factor to me is that the 1980 team had a truly great RB in Wilbert Montgomery, and he was complimented by a FB who could carry the ball productively as well as block, LeRoy Harris. The '04 team basically got by without a running game, so I give the 1980 Eagles the edge b/c of their balance.

That was a good year. But in 2004 there were members on this board that were saying we scored too much. They were worried that the team was getting challenged enough.

2004 was a dominate year. I had no doubt we'd make it to the SB (and we should have won). 1988 was a very exciting/entertaining year. Randall not only ran wild, but also throw well, mostly to our rookie TE (and pro bowler) Keith Jackson. But we weren't dominate. (The defense was, though). That was probably my second favorite year since I been a fan.

BTW, we got ripped in the Fog Bowl. I couldn't see anything watching the game from home.

I love the 80's Eagles but we all know you cant 'really' compare but I have to say;

47-49 Eagles back to back shutout championships(48-49')still rules the history books and steve van buren(LSU)running for the only TD in 48',running for 197yds,and the 1st RB to rush for 1,000yds in 12 games.....c'mon!
