What gives them the temerity to strike on an Election Day?

Septa is probably the worst public mass transit systems I've experienced.

I have no pity for the lazy union workers or Septa.

Bus drivers (after 4 years) earn an average of $50K. To drive a bus. I repeat - to drive a bus.

To hell with my education. I could be a mindless drone, learn a to drive a bus, and still earn a good living, pension included.

Septa is just another form of welfare. You've seen what works there.

Unions are the backbone of the weak and lazy.

And Philly wonders why it can't be financially comparable to NY, Chicago, and Boston...

Those 3 cities you mentioned are also union strongholds as well so you point is mute.

To the OP, if you heard anything that our mayor has said its extreme critismism against SEPTA, not for.

Why do they strike now? Maybe because Schmidt, Untermeyer, and Christie are winning.

All large financial and industrial cities are union stongholds, but none have as strong a grip as Philly.

The others cities have the financial power to keep both sides happy. Philly? Well, we can thank Mayor Street and his crew for the last 8 years of financial ruin.

Have you read any of the union's demands on the current bargaining table?

In this economy, they are calling for <$5 in medical deductions, 11% raise over the next 4 years, and no changes to the penion. In this economy. For driving a bus, train, or trolley.

I would recommend all college graduates who are having a difficult finding a job, settle on driving a bus for a few years, until they can get back on their feet. Hell, it's not a bad temporary job!

What works there, Schultzie? Go ahead and say it. Just one of the reasons the Republican Party is dead.

<<<I would recommend all college graduates who are having a difficult finding a job, settle on driving a bus for a few years, until they can get back on their feet. Hell, it's not a bad temporary job!>>>

I was just discussing this very thing with a co-worker.

That's the problem with some educated people. They seem to feel they are above certain jobs so they would rather be unemployed then settle for driving a bus, train or trolley.

Services jobs are an honest days work, for an honest days wage. Those Septa drivers go thru training and certifications just like some white collar professions.

<<<In this economy, they are calling for <$5 in medical deductions, 11% raise over the next 4 years, and no changes to the penion. In this economy.>>>

If they have that today I would say their union is doing a great job. 1st off not every organization is effect by the economy the same way...so this blanket "in this economy" thing doesn't jive with me. If unions demands are unreasoanble to SEPTAs financial climate, there is a very easy way of showing that.

I think too many companies look to take advantage of the employee disposition "in this economy" and this is a time when having the backing of a union is a good thing.

It is definitely the unions that are bringing this country down.

Fortunately Nutter is not cut from the same cloth as a Street or a Goode. I think he is trying to take the city to another level.

But you are right in that second class leadership combined with cozying up to the unions are what has kept this city second rate.
